Nezaket Ekici is facing an archeological symbol of the Anthropocene. The new performance “Preview & Review” by Nezaket Ekici—created in the framework of "We are the Flood" (a platform of MUSE Science Museum on anthropogenic interferences)—represents our multifaceted connections with nature, identifying a human attitude that is, on the one hand, creative and ingenious and, on the other, overbearing. This duality is as common to human beings today and yesterday, as well as 4,000 years ago. The setting is Lake Ledro in the Italian Alps, home to the remains of a Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlement. Over 10,000 wooden piles, driven into the lakebed, remain as enduring traces of human impact and our original presence on the planet since the primordial Anthropocene. Ekici focuses on the wooden pile as a symbolic object that bridges the human and non-human, the artificial and the natural, the aquatic and the terrestrial, the present and the past. In the performance, the movements of the performer and a tree are intertwined, their existential destinies becoming one as they draw closer to the Paleolithic traces of ancient pile-dwellings—now surreal witnesses to the beginning of a vast planetary transformation. Nezaket Ekici states that: “a pile now recalls a memory of the past, but also combines past and present together, forming a supra-temporal symbol of humanity. It reminds us of the fact that the future needs an origin.” (Text Edited: Jono Wang Chu)
