Nezaket Ekici facing an archeological symbol of the Anthropocene. The new performance “preview&review” by Nezaket Ekici – realized in the frame of "We are the Flood", the platform of MUSE Science Museum on the anthropogenic interferences – reflects the way we act in the nature, identifying an attitude that is, on the one hand, creative and ingenious and, on the other, overbearing, unexpectedly common to human beings today as well as 4,000 years ago, now as yesterday. The setting is the alpine lake Ledro with the evidence of a Bronze Age settlement on pile dwellings. Here, we can read the original presence of well over 10,000 piles driven into the lakebed as emblematic of our impact on the planet since that time and as a primordial sign of the Anthropocene. The artist decided to focus on the element of the wood pile to trigger a symbolic action between human and non-human, artificial and natural, water and ground, present and past. During the action, the tree and person intertwine their movements, their existences in a single destiny, getting closer and closer to the Paleolithic traces of ancient pile-dwellings, now astonished and surreal witnesses of a world near a vast global transformation. Nezaket Ekici states that «a pile now recalls a memory of the past, but also gets past and present together forming a supra-temporal symbol of the humanity. It reminds us of the fact that future needs an origin».
