Performance Installation 2021 Municipal Art Space Artothek Munich Live and Online on 20.02.2021 Ekici's performance installation "Celebration" refers to the current exhibition „Leihweise 2021 – Ankaufssammlung“ - of the Städtischer Kunstraum Artothek München (03.02.-20.02.2021)

The exhibition that has just ended inspires the artist to create a new work. Ekici stands in the empty room of the Artothek. The walls are empty, only small nails from the last hangings are left on the walls. The audience can watch and listen to the performance from outside through the glass pane. Ekici wears a headset and her voice can be heard outside through speakers. She begins to cover the empty walls with colorful adhesive tapes. She sticks the format of an imaginary picture on the wall, which was hanging there before. This creates a picture frame made of colorful tape. Like a string, the tape is then stuck to the wall across the floor to the glass front. Standing in front of the glass wall, Ekici describes to the audience the imagined picture whose outlines she has just made visible on the wall. She then takes a new colorful tape to frame the next imagined image and describe it to the audience. She repeats the act of taping again and again until all the images previously visible in the exhibition have been described. In this way, different formats of colorful picture frame tapes are created on the blank walls. The tapes intertwine on the floor to form a colorful carpet that extends to the glass front. In the end, a colorful room emerges that is a work of art in its own right. It becomes clear what the artworks have in common: they represent the world in all its colors and forms. Ekici connects individual works into a whole and a collection of shapes and colors, but also of stories, emerges in a newly created colorful framework of interconnectedness. The entire space becomes a rushing celebration of colors and vicariously celebrates all the artworks. Ekici always works with artworks from old masters to contemporary art, so the performance installation "Celebration" is inspired by her previous performance installation Lee(h)rstelle (2002) and Lines (2018): both were created in Munich.
