Online Live Performance

Concept
In the live online performance "Transmission" ,Ekici deals with the QR Code. Shetries to create a connection between the real world and the virtual world. She uses thepattern of a QR Code, which is formative for the Internet age. The QR Code is two-dimensional and was developed in 1994 by Masahiro Hara in Japan. It´s purpose is to allow URL quick access to content on the Internet - be it text, photos, movies or music. In her performance, Ekici deals with various black sculptural objects, which shearranges on a white platform. The result is a 2x2 m large floor installation: an oversized QR Code. In her performance, Ekici brings the two-dimensional parts of the QR Code formoments from their abstract Internet world into the real world. By treating the graphicforms of the QR Code like three-dimensional sculptural elements in reality, theInternet world is drawn into reality. At first glance, the individual sculptural elements seem to be simple graphic andgeometic forms. But as a whole form they become a complicated and machine-readable pattern. Strictly speaking, every link on the Internet always remains on the Internet, as it canonly refer to content on the Internet. In this way, one can say, that every Internet link is self-referential. Ekici tries to symbolize this fact with the link she creates for theaudience. The viewers can scan the finished QR Code with their cell phone camera to follow thelink and watch the linked video. Thus, at the end of her performance, Ekici releasesthe audience back into the virtual world of the internet.(Text: Dr. Andreas Dammertz)
