"Monday to Sunday - Instagram Video Flashmob "
Live Performance Instagram 2020

Responding to the enforced isolation people endured during the coronavirus pandemic, which began in Wuhan China in late 2019, the artist created a live performance on Instagram that offered a virtual, movement-based escape from solitude. For seven consecutive days, from Monday to Sunday, she hosted a live Instagram video flash mob each morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (CET). Up to 300 participants joined her in dancing simultaneously from their homes.
Each person used their own headphones and listened to their own music. Everyone danced in their own style, to their own soundtrack. For those simply watching the stream—without music—the experience was marked by a striking silence, broken only by the sound of the artist’s breathing and the visual rhythm of her movements. The performance took place in the intimacy of her living room, adding a domestic, familiar atmosphere.
Despite the physical distance and the virtual medium, the performance created a surprising sense of closeness. The shared time, combined with the quiet intimacy of the setting, fostered a feeling of presence that superseded the screen. Viewers were not only reminded of their own isolation, but also invited to experience a fleeting sense of community—one that offered both movement and connection. (Text Edited: Jono Wang Chu)
