Concept
The performance "Heaven Marta" is based on the video performance and photo work "Heaven Island" (2014) of the artist Nezaket Ekici: She was inspired to do so by an excavator which stood for weeks on the grounds of the Culture Academy Tarabya in Istanbul in front of her Livingroom window. Many times she could watch its bucket moving up and down and formally pushed to the fore. In the performance the excavator shovel allows a clear view of the Bosphorus. The bucket becomes the new home of the artist.
?In Herford, the 10 year anniversary, Ekici sits in a raised bucket in front of the museum Marta as well as in front of the people. Like the sea with its waves, the architecture of the Museum roof resembles the sea at Bospherus. ?Gradually, the artist takes up a plant, a bed sheet, a pillow, a lamp, an umbrella and other objects in the bucket. She pulls each object on a rope one after the other up. Ekici broadened its focus into the distance, always driven by the desire to be the architectural sea and close to heaven. The bucket is her small living room.
