Concept
Malaga was settled by the Phoenicians more than 3,000 years ago. They gave the city its name, calling it MALAKA, which means "salting", because they used the harbor for salted fish: “Malaka” means “Salted Fish”. Many fishs are mounted to the body of the artist, from head to toe. Bounded with a fine nylon thread. Its looks on the one hand like a Fisch costume and on the other hand as if she herself is a fish. She wlaks slowly towards a mountain of salt, installed at the sea side In her performance, she works with the salt in many ways like sitting on the salt hill and rolling down from it, all in order to sprinkle salt to her body and bring it onto the fish. More and more she becomes a salt sculpture during the process, fulfilling the meaning of the name “Malaka” to get a living salted fish in a symbolic way. After being salted the artist moves into the sea. The fish as a general symbol of life is going back to the Sea, were it came from – whilst the sea is already heavely salted by nature. The artist will become one with water, salt and life in itself for the Moments, she is under water. When the artist comes back from the Water, the public is asked to cut the fisch from her body and put on plates. Afterwords everyone is invited to eat the grilled salted fish. http://www.abiertodeaccion.org/nezaket-ekici/
