Concept
The trilogy "TBQ" (English Torah, Bible, Quran) is a research project with which the two artists want to find out how religions and cultures deal with holy books that should or can no longer be used. In the process, 3 video performances have been created: Geniza 2017 (Video 8:42 min MP4 HD 16:9), La Scala 2017 (Video 5:09 min MP4 HD 16:9), Sea of Life 2018 (Video 10:56 min MP4 HD 16:9). The Abrahamic religions have many things in common, but also differ significantly in some questions. According to Jewish and Islamic revelation, God and Archangel Gabriel passed on the Word of God directly to Abraham, Moses, and Mohammed. Therefore, the Holy Scripture is identical with God and cannot be disposed of or hurt in any way. In the Christian faith, on the other hand, Jesus revealed the Word on earth as the Son of God, so that the book serves as a vehicle for the Holy Word of God, but as an object does not automatically become holy in itself. The two artists focus mainly on the emotional bond of believers and the way people dedicate themselves to their faith and the holy books. In three videos they show ritual performances and use outdated holy books to revive their sacred meaning and free them from their undeserved silence. They consciously shift the actions to a fictional and poetic level. Through the close relationship of performance art to the ritual act itself, the two artists also formally create a parallel to religious practice. In this visual triad, it becomes clear how elementary an intensive, also emotional confrontation with other cultural practices is for communication and understanding.
