"Ab ovum "

Video performance 2020

Concept
The egg has always occupied a special place in cultural history. It stands for the question of the beginning and usually ends in the dilemma whether the hen should not have been there first. The question of the path the egg takes until it lands on our breakfast table or reaches „Easter“ significance is rarely or never asked. In the video performance "ab ovum" Ekici deals with the question of the origin and identity of the egg. The artist stamps the egg by leaving her fingerprints visible on the egg. The fingerprints are a symbol of the many hands that have accompanied the egg's journey from stable to consumer. The fingerprints also stand for identities. Thus the egg becomes the vehicle of identities and has an identity-forming effect. All those people involved in the "production" of the egg form a community: thus each individual identity must be understood in its functional context. And also the egg itself gets its identity from the many hands that are directly or indirectly involved. One could almost say: the egg becomes the egg through the people who make it usable.
