"Black Cube "
Video performance 2016
The artist Nezaket Ekici lies in a glass Vitrine in a skin-coloured net costume.
Around her there are more than 50 kg of coffee beans, so you can't see the artist anymore.
Slowly she moves under the heavy mass. First her arm comes out, then other parts of her body.
She takes a handful of coffee beans and pours them through slits in her costume. More and more the costume fills up with coffee beans all over her body. The body deforms and bulges appear that complement her body and increasingly transform it into an amorphous form.
The glass showcase empties and fills at the same time as the artist becomes one with the coffee beans.
The mass of coffee beans in the volume of her costume corresponds to the mass of coffee she has drunk in her life, according to wanton estimates. That's only a tenth of what a normal middle European drinks in his whole life.
The resulting hybrid human coffee sculpture, to which the artist transforms herself, symbolizes the physical amount of coffee a person consumes in his life.
