Concept
In the frame of the Exhibition: Nezaket Ekici and Shahar Marcus “Artificial Islands” in the Galeria Labirynt | Plaza, Lublin , 01.04.-15.05.2016, the two artist produced a new Videoperformance with the name “Lublin Beach” in Lublin. The Videoperformance is designed as a confrontation with another extreme – artists are having a “picnic at the beach”, but in winter a freezing-cold snowy landscape. Lublin Beach (2016), in contrast to previous artistic activities, is of humorous character, which provides a balance to the graveness of the attempt to survive in unfavourable weather conditions. Artists are behaving just like holidaymakers should – they are putting up their deckchairs and a sun umbrella, inflating rubber life rings, dancing to some radio tunes, having a grill, eating, playing table tennis, putting on the sun screen… Discord between the holiday props, the artists’ scant beachwear and the winter landscape results with a cognitive dissonance and confusion. Ekici and Marcus want us to take a break from our daily grind and live our “here and now” for at least a moment , aware of one’s body, thoughts and emotions. The Artificial Islands exhibition presents video-performances by Nezaket Ekici and Shahar Marcus from 2012 till 2016 and photos and costumes for the Sand Clock performance.
