Concept
The “Dead Sea” is the starting point for the Videoperformance of Nezaket Ekici.. Directed with his face down, the artist is floating in an oversized white dress on the Dead Sea. Her hair and her arms are spread out visible and lying motionless on the water: you could almost say, it is as if she lies dead in the water. On her dress more as 50 white flying balloons are attached, filled with helium. This creates the illusion that the artist is held floating above the water with the help of balloons. And so it seems as if the balloons lift the body of the artist at any moment in the sky, going for a life after death. The name of the Dead Sea dervives from the high salt concentrate, making life almost entirely impossible. The artist uses this meaning and tries to become one with the Dead Sea. By doubling the symolic importance of the Dead Sea combined with the death-like floating on the water, the artist makes visible the transcendence that is inharent in the dead sea. In particular, for the three major religions originating in the believe of Abrahem, the Dead Sea is of great importance. The artist opens the door to an otherworldly place, you can not see – but its lightness by the ballons and its awayness will become visible in the work. In particular, the balloons are a symbol for leaving this world and the here and now in order get away to heaven. With this poetic image, the artist questions the here and now and she points out a “beeing between”, which in a natural event such as the Dead Sea seems to already exist., Material: white costume, 50 hooks, 50 white helium balloons The title Methexis means “being in-between”, being between heaven and earth, life and death. The term originates from Platonic philosophy and also denotes „participation“ in the supra-heavenly ideas - and therefore the participation of everything earthly in the transcendent.
