"UFO over Schöppingen"

Performance Installation presented at: City Offensive - Schöppingen als Labor, Schöppingen, 2003

Concept
"UFO flying Schoeppingen" shows a place, a typical small town from an overflight perspective. Not without reason this title is designated in such a way. It is as if a extraterestrial object flyes above Schoepingen. "UFO flying Schoeppingen" connects a unidentified flying object (the performer) with media. A large projection of Schoeppingen filmed in a bird's-eye view can be seen on the soil. The projection attempts to let the visual representation in itself become alive. This impression is strengthened by the purposeful employment of music. In the film with quick-motion and slow motion effects, it seems to be quite unnatural.
The performance running in real time, faces these virtual as well as accustic effects. The artist (Nezaket Ekici) flys as a living sculpture - lying on a shelf, mounted beneath the roof - over the projection. Her body throws a life-large shade on the projection. This leads to the impression of a UFO, which flies over the city. The shade of the artist connects the two levels - material and virtual -.
The viewer, looking on the soil, is involved into this situation and has the feeling as if he would fly hiself along and like the UFO, looking down at the city. The viewer discovers his own city as something strange and new.
